We had an interesting case with stock values recently. One person ran the report and got €150K and another person, in the same company. ran the same report and got €100K. This had a great effect on monthly profit reports!!!

We checked the data and all was well. We checked that there were no searches on anyones data in case data was restricted.

After a day of checking we eventually discovered the issue which may be of interest to you.

In most cases when you run a Stock/Product report it defaults from Category 1 to Category 999.

This particular client imported some extra stock items and did not allocate a Category and hence Sage determined that they were Cat Zero.

So when you ran the report the same as you always do….without even looking at the cats…..1 to 999, the new items were not included ….as Cat Zero was not included in the report.

If you manually create a new product it usually defaults to a Cat1 and therefore will be included.

So the lesson…when importing be careful…..but more importantly…..for all users – run your stock value for 1 to 999, note the total value and then run the same report for 0 to 999 and ensure that they are the same value.

In most cases they will be the same…but might be worth checking.
