During the last few weeks we had some clients whose websites simply disappeared. Unfortunately, the company that created the sites ceased to trade.
We were asked to review the situation as to who owned the site, where it located was and whether the site can be retrieved.

Ownership of websites is complicated.

Do YOU own the site, that you paid for, or the web company that created the site?
Even if you own it, can you actually move it from one web provider to another?

Whoever creates the site should provide you with a back-up file and allow you to periodically, and independently, back up the site.
But you also need to have details of – Who owns your domain name and Who is hosting this Domain.

Without wanting to state the obvious…there is no point waiting until there is an issue with your site to start looking for same.
